I think a lot of these things are related .... compensating for a back injury can cause hamstring problems.
Obviously he needed back surgery and his refusal means that he has effectively wasted a year of his career and our money.
Am no back surgeon but you'd worry about any footballer being the same again. Maybe its some sort of disc problem that they can relieve but given our record he has probably got a fractured spine and we will next see him starring in the Senegalese remake of Ironside.

Think it was talk sport that said he is or has had back surgery?
I remember someone on here saying that he was told by the club that back surgery maybe the only answer, but he turned it down and has broken down with continual back problems since, and failed the medical to WBA because of it showing up on X-ray.
I suspect there was no leg injury and it was his back again all along and he has now bit the bullet and had it done?
Either way he will only be fit enough for the knackers yard as back problems are unlikely to disappear especially for a professional athlete.
